A Shrine for Maris

Three sandstone blocks.
One for her.
One for him.
One for both.

A shelter under which
she lies

at a place where she found peace
near to what she must have known
was near the end.
But this place was happiness.
This place, was Love.
A bend in the river
where friends gathered
and laughed.

It is here she now remains,
in the open to air,
water,
earth,
fire . . . .
life . . . . .
Beauty.

Hers was a hardscrabble fate
turned back by joy
and marked

with a shine.
