Choosing the Recliner

by Brian Jones

Added 13 October 1997

Choosing the recliner
for my solitary meal.
A table for four too
lonely for one.

Sinking into the blue velour
in order to gain warmth,
but each movement, each contraction,
serves to lessen stature.

Talking to fork and knife,
recoiling at their keen retorts.
Not at all enjoying
this lost and lonely meal.
