Uneasy with My Own Materialism

Look at what I have
and you will see what I don't need.
Imagine what is missing
and you will have thought of what I don't need.

But that doesn't prevent the wanting,
or having.
Making me loathed by the world;
and myself.

I passed a bum within the hour.
I gave him change yesterday.
I should have passed him a twenty today.
Instead I gave him nothing and splurge on fine Italian.

I find myself an uneasy bastard
of my own reproach,
a fingerprint in the condensation
on a fine glass of water.

Somebody bring me a straw.
No, I have to get it myself.
