After a trip to Moab in June of 2000, WolfSoul and Smokey Steve thought it would be a great idea to get a bunch of ZR2 owners together and do a full-fledged trip. Here is the report from the very first ZafaRi2. This was the billing for the event:
After months and MONTHS of preparation, ZafaRi2001 finally came together, and with scarcely a hitch! I don't recall hearing a single complaint about the event. With that in mind, now that the trip is over and it doesn't look like anyone is going to sue, perhaps we'll call this an official event now. *smile*
I only wish that I had been able to get a few more ZR2's to attend. A number of folks had to back out at the last minute due to various emergencies, so I ended up with a total of ten vehicles, 6 of which were ZR2's. In attendance were myself and Jeff Hansen ('98 Highrider), Steve and Anita Spangler ('98 BlaZeR2), Rick Fournier and Maris McKinley ('98 BlaZeR2), Steve Smith and Joe ('00 ZR2 p/u), Brian DeArmon ('00 ZR2 p/u), Randy Owens and Lara ('00 BlaZeR2) Rich Schierbeck ('99 Jeep Wrangler), Dave Legters and Julie ('85 Toyota 4Runner), Jack and Pedro Silberman ('2000 Toyota 4Runner), and Erik Price and Dar ('01 Ford Ranger). Of these, I had wheeled with Steve and Anita, Rich, Dave, Rick, and Jack and Pedro. I knew Steve Smith pretty well from our on-line conversations, but didn't know the others much at all. No matter. Everyone got along great, and it was great to get to know everyone on the trip a little better!
I figure I'll start with a little roll call so you can place names and faces with vehicles. Here's the run-down:

Speaking of which, if you own a Highrider/ZR2/BlaZeR2, or want to find out more about the best little 4X4's around, check out these great sites:

There is also a ZR2 discussion group, which is very fun for talking about our special trucks and in getting ideas, help, and useful information. I have learned a great deal from the list. You can join by sending an e-mail to mailto:zr2@zr2hr.org with the word "SUBSCRIBE" (without the quotes) in the subject line.
ENJOY!
