There has been a lot of discussion on the ZR2 discussion list about the largest tire size that will fit a ZR2. While quite well established that a 31X10.5 R15 is the largest tire that will fit a stock ZR2 without rubbing, there is much debate about what one can fit on a ZR2 with a 2" or 3" lift. A friend of mine had some 33" BFG AT's sitting around, and was willing to give me a great deal on them, so the cogs in my head started grinding away . . . Would they fit with a lift? I tried a simple method to try to find out. I rolled the 33's out to my truck, and placed them next to my wheels. It was obvious that there was no way they would fit without the lift. But what about with a lift? I then jacked the left side of my truck up 3" and blocked it. I tried to make sure that both front and rear were lifted 3".I have heard of people with 3" lifts putting 33" tires on their ZR2, and have even seen some pictures, but after my little experience, I'm not sure how they do it. Those 33's are awfully big. Perhaps some fender trimming would do the trick . . .
At any rate, below you will find some pictures of my experiment. The top picture is of the stock 31" tires, then the 33's without the "lift", then the 33's with the "lift."
If you're in the Tucson area, drop me a line and we can go wheelin' sometime.
Speaking of which, if you own a Highrider/ZR2/BlaZeR2, or want to find out more about the best little 4X4's around, check out these great sites:

There is also a ZR2 discussion group, which is very fun for talking about our special trucks and in getting ideas, help, and useful information. I have learned a great deal from the list. You can join by sending an e-mail to mailto:zr2@zr2hr.org with the word "SUBSCRIBE" (without the quotes) in the subject line.
ENJOY!
