[April] The traditional subject for the month of April is the picking of flowers. This painting focuses more on the betrothal of the two people in the foreground though. This painting appears to be somewhat awkwardly done. Note the isometric projection of the walled orchard on the right side of the painting, which seems to be an odd twist of proportionality. And what appears to be a lake in the background, is actually a river. The building in the background is the Chateau of Dourdan, the foundations of which are still existent today. Note how the rows of trees mimic the architecture of the chateau.
