The Bowyer Chronicles

Bradley's Chronicle

Added 3 February 2008

Through this web site, several aspiring bowyers have sent me their thoughts and experiences as they first begin to make bows. I think that their experiences - their successes and their failures - can be helpful to other aspiring bowyers. William's shares his thought on the best wood for a bow are below. If you would like to add your own story to The Bowyer Chronicles, please feel free to contact me.

Brad suffered something that many first-time bowyers have. His first bow broke. Here's what he thinks went wrong:

"I had almost finished it. Was just adding finishing touches to it for aesthetics. It was fully stretched. Unfortunately I was out of the country for a few weeks and I think it set again. My tip is, if the bow has not been used for a long time, the same stretching process should be carried out again. just to be on the safe side."
